St. Genevieve Parishioner Marks 106th Birthday

Everyone looks forward to the Christmas season, but at St. Genevieve Parish in Twisp, the parishioners always anticipate another special day: the birthday of a “favorite” member, Mary Bean. She turned 106 on Dec. 30, 2020.

To celebrate her birthday, parishioners sent cards, prayed for Mary, and attended Mass with her that day. It was a happy celebration for everyone.

As a long-time member of our parish, Mary has always been ready to lend a helping hand. She is a member of the altar society, served as a Eucharistic minister, cleaned the church for years, and attends Mass regularly - always sure to follow the COVID-19 virus guidelines. In the community, Mary has spent countless hours volunteering at the local senior center thrift shop and The Cove food bank.

Our valley is full of friends who love and admire Mary, not just because of her amazing life, strong faith, and indomitable spirit; but, more importantly, for who she is and how she lives her life. Baking cookies for others, playing cards, and exercising while enjoying this beautiful valley are just a few of her many interests. Recently, she finally gave up skiing, chopping wood, and other favorite activities.

One of Mary’s most significant achievements is her incredible family. Mary and her first husband, Kenneth Schmidt, had two daughters, Carol and Josephine. Now, Mary enjoys 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren! Recently, her daughter Jo and son-in-law Dennis came to live with her and join Mary in her busy life. We are all very blessed by Mary Bean’s joyful presence among us.
